The whole point of an always-on chatbot is that it turns visitors into leads —

even at 2 a.m. when your team is asleep. UpChat's bot does this naturally: as it

helps a visitor, it collects their name, email, and phone number at the right

moments, then hands you a qualified lead to follow up on.

Where this fits: Lead capture happens automatically once your bot is

live. This guide explains what's

happening behind the scenes; to *see* your leads, read

Viewing Conversations & Managing Leads.

How the bot captures a lead

You don't have to build forms or set rules. During a natural conversation, your

bot:

  1. Greets the visitor and helps with their question using your trained

knowledge.

  1. Asks for a name early, so the chat feels personal.
  2. Requests contact details (email and/or phone) at a natural moment — for

example, when the visitor wants a quote, a demo, or a follow-up.

  1. Confirms and stores the details as a lead the instant they're provided.

💡 Tip: Your welcome pills

influence intent. Pills like "Get a Quote" or "Book a Demo" naturally lead into

contact capture.

What gets captured with each lead

Every lead includes more than just contact info. UpChat also records:

  • Classification — the type of lead (for example, a sales vs. service inquiry),

so you can prioritize.

  • Source — attribution data like the referring site and campaign parameters,

so you know where the lead came from.

  • The full conversation — the entire transcript, so you have context before

you reach out.

You'll be notified

If you enabled notifications during setup, you'll get an in-app badge and an

email when a lead is captured (instantly, or as a digest — your choice). That

means you can respond fast, while intent is high.

💡 Not getting alerts? Check Management → Alerts to confirm your notification

email and frequency.

Make lead capture better

  • Train for intent. Add FAQs for the

questions that precede a purchase so the bot can guide visitors confidently.

  • Use clear pills. Point visitors toward high-intent actions.
  • Respond quickly. Speed to lead is one of the biggest drivers of conversion.
