The fastest way to make your bot smart is to let it read your website for you.
When you create a new bot, UpChat's Smart Setup wizard offers to scan your
site and automatically pull in your **services, FAQs, products, and business
info** — usually in about 30 seconds. It's the single biggest head start you can
give a brand-new bot.
Where this fits: Smart Setup appears right after
creating your first chatbot. It's
Step 2 of the Quick Start checklist. Prefer to add
knowledge by hand? See How to Train Your Chatbot.
Meet the setup wizard
As soon as your bot is created, the "Let's Set Up Your Chatbot" wizard opens.
It walks you through six quick steps:
Scan → Business → Goals → Content → Alerts → Launch
You can complete it in one sitting or click Save & Exit and come back anytime —
your progress (and the Setup % shown at the top of the dashboard) is saved.
Step 1 — Scan your website
On the first step, confirm or enter your website address and click Scan. If you
added a URL when creating your bot, it's pre-filled for you.

💡 Tip: Point the scan at the page richest in real content — usually your
homepage or a "Services" page. You can always scan more pages later during
training.
While it works, you'll see a short "Scanning your website…" message. This
typically takes about 30 seconds.

Step 2 — Review what we found
When the scan finishes, UpChat shows you exactly what it discovered — your
business name plus a count of the Services, FAQs, Products, and Locations it
extracted. From here you can Change website to scan a different address, or
click Continue Setup to keep going.

💡 Tip: Don't worry about perfection here. Everything the scan finds becomes
editable training content you can refine later under Knowledge Base and
Training.
Steps 3–6 — Finish the essentials
Click Continue Setup and the wizard helps you round out the basics:
- Business — confirm your business details and how the bot should describe you.
- Goals — tell the bot what success looks like (e.g. capture leads, book
appointments, answer support questions).
- Content — review and tidy the services, FAQs, and products from the scan.
- Alerts — choose where new-lead notifications should go.
- Launch — get your install snippet and take your bot live.
You can revisit any of these later — nothing here is permanent, and the
Setup % indicator keeps track of what's left.
What if I don't have a website?
No problem. Choose "Skip and enter info manually" on the Scan step and you'll
build your bot's knowledge yourself using FAQs, documents, products, and services.
