First impressions decide whether a visitor engages or bounces. UpChat gives you
three tools to start conversations on the right foot: a welcome bubble, a
welcome message, and tappable conversation-starter pills. Together they
greet visitors and nudge them toward the questions you most want to answer.
Where this fits: This is Step 4 of the
Quick Start checklist. You'll find these settings
alongside your widget styling.
Where to find it
Open your bot and go to Management → Widget, then select the Welcome tab.
As with all widget settings, the Live Preview on the right updates as you type.
1. The welcome bubble
On the Global tab, the Welcome Bubble is the short greeting shown next to
your widget icon before anyone clicks — for example, "Hi! 👋 How can I help you
today?" Keep it warm and under ~80 characters. You can also hide it on mobile
to save screen space.
2. The welcome message
On the Welcome tab, the Welcome Message is the first thing visitors read
when they open the chat. Use it to set expectations and invite a question — e.g.
"Feel free to type your question below, and we'll be happy to help. Or pick a topic
to get started."
3. Conversation-starter pills
Welcome Pills are the tappable buttons under your welcome message (like
Customer Service, Sales, and Other). They give visitors a one-tap way
to start — which dramatically lifts engagement over a blank input box.

To manage pills:
- Click the + button to add a new pill.
- Use the trash icon on a pill to remove it.
- Style them with Pill Background, Pill Hover, Pill Text, and
Pill Hover Text colors.
💡 Tip: Aim for 3–5 pills that map to your top visitor intents — think
"Get a Quote," "Book a Demo," "Support," or your main services. Fewer, clearer
choices convert better than a long list.
Preview, then publish
Toggle the Live Preview between Welcome and Chat, confirm your greeting and
pills look right, then click Save Changes.
